< Home < Tips Area < Rod Selection < 1 Weight Rods I believe Dave LeClair posted a 1-weight taper, I forget if it as on the list or on the classic rod forum. (Henry Mitchell) In case the taper was not posted or was lost in the spam, here is a 2 piece LeClair 1 weight taper. I made one. LeClair, Dave 5012 0.05 I would like to build a bamboo bluegill rod. Normally I use a plastic one wt and would like to replace it. However, exploring the taper libraries available on-line reveals a dearth of one wt tapers. Anyone have one they'd like to share. (Michael Johnson) You might want to check out tapers by Digger DeGere. I know some of them are 2 wts and if I'm not mistaken he also had a 1 wt taper. (Will Price) There may have been a Digger one wt, but I believe it was a one piece rod, which I'm not interested in building at this time. (Michael Johnson) Simple fix. Make it as a 2 piece version. I don't think that there is a wealth of 1 wt tapers for bamboo. (Will Price) This is a seven foot, two-piece rod with tiny size 9/64 ferrules. I have only cast it with a one weight line, and it's fairly nice if you like light line rods. Others thought it might handle a two weight line, but I'm a little scared of that. You will notice the stations are off a little in places because I had to measure around guides. The rod came to me partially stripped of varnish. What varnish remained was rather thin, so I have made my best estimate and these numbers are without varnish. (I forgot to measure again before restoring the rod)
Guides: 5" These are by far the smallest snake guides I have seen. The stripper is about a 1/0 snake, the upper three must be 6/0 -- tough to get a one weight line through them. (Harry Boyd) |
