I appreciate ferrule plugs and I have made them and I use them.  Mine are made from and bamboo butt section scrap and are tied to the rod bag with a short leash.  I am considering making the next rod sock for a 3 section rod with a pocket in the flap to store the two ferrule plugs when the rod is out working.  Odd, I have never heard a discussion on this “small” topic.  Perhaps my mind is wandering today or I’m bored with work.

Where to you guys stash your ferrule plug(s)?  In your pocket, on the dashboard or down the rod sock? (Lynn West)

Having forgotten where I left mine a few times, I now leave them in my shoe. The reminder occurs when I slip my shoes back on at the end of the day means I never forget them anymore.  (Simon Reilly)

If the plug(s) are not ns, then like you they are attached to the bag tag.  If ns, then they go into the zippered reel bag.  (Scott Grady)

I recently acquired a Pezon de Michel rod circa mid-1960's and to my surprise the ferrule plug stayed with the rod all those years. The ferrule plug was in place... made of wood and cork.

The original rod sock was also included and sewn onto the rod sock was this cute little pocket...two inches square.

Being American and not French my first thought was that was for a chaw of tobacco...or maybe chewing gum.

But first time I. put the rod together there I was holding the ferrule plug with a "Duh, what do I with this while casting or fishing?" look on my face.

I was totally flummoxed. So I put it in my pants pocket but that just didnt seem right...no way the plug would have stayed with the rod for fifty years if every schlub that handled the thing stashed it just any ole place.

Eventually...not right away... the answer came to me and now, yes, I do stow the plug in the cute little Frenchie pocket sewn onto the rod sock.... (Bruce Morton)

Usually in the bottom of my gear bag...all of my ferrule plugs! The tether sounds like a better solution. (Lee Gomolchak)

I think you have a dandy idea.  Upon reading about it, my thoughts zipped immediately to an old Hardy salmon rod that I have.  It has a pocket in the rod sock for the detachable butt extension but no pocket or any other means for dealing with the ferrule plugs.  I just might have to add one.  Thank you for the idea. (Bill Ernst)

I used to provide ferrule plugs for sale rods and then discovered that the purchaser put them away so they wouldn't lose them.

Reduced the rod price and don't provide them any more.

For my personal rods I've only made one set. They were a pain & I was always hunting for them. For that reason, I haven’t used them for 25 years. Never missed them although the hunting trips were a joy. Always discovered something else gone missing. Did detract from the fishing time though.

Do the ferrule plugs last longer when used. Haven`t a clue. (Don Anderson)

I put mine in the reel case in that little hole for the reel handle. (Bret Reiter)
